Who We Are
Our Story and Values

Our Story
What began between two friends, where they wanted to create an opportunity for women to connect, soon grew into something much bigger.
In 2023, co-founder Hayley Nelson attended an Acorn Foundation presentation where philanthropy researcher Dr Claire Routley shared compelling evidence about the positive impact giving can have on women.
Inspired by how collective giving can strengthen wellbeing, purpose and community, Hayley saw an opportunity to transform a social gathering into a movement for collective impact.
She took the idea to co-founder Keryn Jarvis, who immediately embraced the vision.
With the support of Acorn Foundation, they established the Western Bay of Plenty Women’s Fund, guided by the whakataukī Ka Mua Ka Muri — walking backwards into the future with our eyes on the past.
A founding committee was carefully assembled, bringing a range of skills, perspectives and lived experiences, including a dedicated rangatahi voice.
The Fund was officially launched on 10 May 2024 at Tauranga’s Cargo Shed. Chosen as it was the eve of Mother’s Day, the date now serves as the Fund’s annual celebration of giving, connection and community impact.
