Frequently asked questions
What is the WBOP Women's Fund?
The WBOP Women's Fund is a collective giving fund, held within the Acorn Foundation, that brings women together to pool their generosity and make a meaningful difference for wāhine and whānau across the Western Bay of Plenty. Every dollar donated is granted out to kaupapa that support women and girls in our community.
How does the Fund work?
When you donate to the Women's Fund, your giving is pooled together with other members' contributions. Half goes toward that year's granting round, supporting the charities members nominate and vote for, and the other half is invested to help grow the Fund's long-term impact.
What happens to the 50% of the Fund that's invested?
The invested portion is there to help the Fund grow over time. Once it reaches a large enough size, it will be used for new awards programme, giving us the chance to support wāhine pursuing their aspirations.
Who does the Fund support?
We support a wide range of kaupapa that improve the lives of women and girls locally, from housing and wellbeing initiatives like Huia House, to workshops, safety, and new mothers.
How is the Fund connected to the Acorn Foundation?
The Women's Fund sits within the Acorn Foundation, Western Bay of Plenty's community foundation. Acorn takes care of the admin of the fund including professionally managing every donation so we can focus on impact.
How long has the Fund been running?
The Fund was launched in May 2023 with a morning event held at The Cargo Shed in town.
